Cultivate Wholeness

Committed to the Common Good

At Cultivate Wholeness we are striving to improve the physical, relational and spiritual health of the Oakwood-Lincoln Park Neighborhood and surrounding North Knoxville area. Our goal is to help strengthen our community's resiliency by planting neighborhood food systems and developing a network of meaningful relationships. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of our neighbors.

Cultivate Wholeness at a Glance

Out of a love for our neighborhood and a longing to help meet the unique needs of our neighbors, we launched our Non-Profit Organization, Cultivate Wholeness, in 2018. We are working to not only fight food insecurities and the limited access to affordable, fresh produce in our community, but we also desire to combat a growing sense of isolation and loneliness among our fellow neighbors.

Initiatives

From Burwell to Backyards

Cultivate Wholeness is achieving more with our initiatives than ever before. We initially began with Burwell Gardens: A Neighborhood Garden, but are excited about our expansion efforts to begin planting a Backyard Garden Network in North Knoxville. Learn more about what we do, who we help, and how we work every day to promote positive change.

Burwell Gardens

A Neighborhood Garden

Planted in April of 2018, Burwell Gardens has been cultivated on a property once vacant and overgrown. It has now blossomed into a vibrant community hub and demonstration garden serving as a hybrid community and market garden. Burwell Gardens is located in the North Knoxville neighborhood, Oakwood-Lincoln Park, and plays host to a number of community events such as cook outs, fire pits, concerts and yoga. Over 20 gardeners rent garden beds each year here and make up the Burwell Gardens Collective.

Backyard Gardens

A Neighborhood Network

This initiative is designed to come alongside low-income families in our community struggling with food insecurities. Our organization empowers these neighbors to learn to grow their own food right outside their door by providing everything they need to cultivate a thriving, sustainable garden in their yard. We not only supply the essential elements such as raised beds, soil, seeds, and irrigation, but also give regular technical support to ensure their success.

Turn off the news and build a garden
Just my neighborhood and me
We might feel a bit less hardened
We might feel a bit more free
Turn off the news and raise your kids
Give them something to believe in
Teach them how to be good people
Give them hope that they can see
